Antibiotic stewardship
We are approaching a crisis with antibiotic overprescribing and the development of resistance. This is one of the reasons for antibiotics being a prescription only medicine in western countries and there are controls on prescribing and use.
Antibiotics only work for infections caused by bacteria. It can be difficult to tell the difference between a bacterial illness and the more common viral illnesses. We have worked hard to ensure our clinical guidelines encourage safe antibiotic prescribing and when using our Telehealth service our doctors have appropriate antibiotic use at the forefront of clinical discussions.
Prescribing
It is appropriate and legal to prescribe medications (and in this case our medication kit) following a Telehealth consultation provided certain criteria are met. Our prescriptions are private, meaning we claim no subsidies for the consultation or the prescribing and there is no subsidy on the medication. You are paying for a fully private unsubsidised medical service.
We do not prescribe controlled or scheduled drugs or unscheduled drugs of abuse via Telehealth or as a component of these medical kits
Our Doctors
Our doctors are registered with both the New Zealand Medical Council (NZMC) and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as Emergency Medicine Specialists and hold indemnity insurance in both Australia and New Zealand. They are all experienced with the delivery of emergency telemedicine.
